- Does the SV8100 support Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)?
Yes. The SV8100 supports the new UNIVERGE® SV8000 Series ACD. /nThe SV8000 Series ACD facilitates the handling of high call volume with a minimum number of resources. It reduces caller hold time and distributes call volume evenly among employees. Callers are given the option of either immediately leaving a message for agent callback or holding for an agent. Those who wish to hold hear initial and repeating announcements encouraging them to remain in the call queue. This prevents callers from hanging-up and reduces lost calls thereby helping to improve employee efficiency and streamline staffing. /nThe PC-Based Supervisor with Reports feature can be used for agent scheduling, business analysis and improvement of scheduling efficiency. The reporting package features an easy-to-use PC interface for compiling, analyzing and managing information. This convergence of technology and communication positions the SV8000 Series ACD as a key element of NEC's UNIVERGE360 approach.
- How do I reduce call-hold periods with the SV8100?
For today's small-to-medium size businesses (SMB), there is simply no place for long call-holding periods, incorrect call routing or lost messages. While organizations seek the right solution to address these issues, they also expect improved efficiency, economy and convenience. /nThe UNIVERGE® VM8000 InMail Solution, a part of NEC's UNIVERGE360 approach to fully integrate communications into the business environment, is ideal for SMBs wishing to ensure that all callers get to the people and information that they need without prohibitive hold times or dropped calls. It is an embedded solution for the UNIVERGE SV8100 Communication Server that provides digitally-integrated voice messaging capabilities and Automated Attendant features to meet a SMB's communication needs both now and in the future.
- What is the easiest way to manage my own terminals with the SV8100 Server?
The easiest way to manage your own terminals if you are using the SV8100 Server is to install the UNIVERGE® SV8000 Series PC Pro/WebPro. /nThe SV8000 Series PC Pro/WebPro is an instrumental troubleshooting tool that empowers users to manage their own terminals and provides them with the functionality needed to simplify communications. PC Pro/WebPro is a part of NEC's UNIVERGE360 approach to integrating communications technology into the business environment. /nMost PC Pro/WebPro programming is done via three views - Standard, Wizard and System Data. These views are accessible through menu items, a tabbed view or one-click icons.
- What is the SV8000 Series Desktop Suite?

SV8000 Series Communications Analyst is an easy-to-use, graphically-oriented software package that captures, monitors, and analyzes phone calls and trunk usage for single or multiple locations. It provides a clear picture of voice and network activity on converged communication platforms such as VoIP, hosted PBXs and hybrid telephone systems. /nFor both SMB and enterprise organizations, Communications Analyst it enables productivity measurement, cost management, toll fraud monitoring and billing creation. /nBecause it is a scalable solution, with uncomplicated licensing and upgrades that are simple to implement, it can grow as your business grows. Its enterprise-level database standards ensure that your company will never outgrow it. UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX
- What is NEC Protims?
Many of the features available within the system, are accessible from the NEC integral digital handset or Dterm, and are supported via a signalling method called Protims. /nThe Protims signalling is still being supported on all of the new IP connected Dterms, and as such allows an IP or SIP Dterm to have access to the same features sets as the traditional TDM Dterm.
- What is an IP-PAD?
To allow the IP network to connect to the traditional environment, a package has been introduced which is called an IP-PAD. This device, which is a PCB (printed circuit board) can reside in a normal slot within the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX, and allows the linking of a maximum 32 paths between the traditional and the IP. /nThe IP-PAD quantities necessary within a system are calculated purely on a traffic requirement basis.
- Are the traditional features of the NEAX PBXs supported over IP?
NECs PBX feature list extends to offer a choice of many hundreds of features, which can be selected and set within the system depending on a customers particular requirement. In nearly all cases these features are also available for users of IP and SIP Dterms. /nIf wishing to utilise IP Trunking, then the functionality offered with CCIS and FCCS are also both supported with IP.
- Does the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX support SIP?
Yes, SIP is supported by the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX system under the management of the specific licenses activated within the CPU and the communication control of an Ethernet connected S-Box.
- What is meant by support for peer to peer?
For the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX, IP peer to peer implies that an IP extension or an IP trunk does not have a physical point of reference within the PBX but is set in programming only and communicates via the Ethernet port of the system. When communicating to another telephony device, such as another extension or system trunk, the signalling and switching is all controlled directly from the CPU. The voice path however does not access the PBX but traverses via the IP DATA network directly from device to device.
- What is the difference between the NEAX 2400 IPX and UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX?
The UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX offers with the following enhancements:
- A new CPU shelf
- The new 1 Gig Hz CPU
- R19 Software on Initial release
- New UNIVERGE NEAX badging
- Updated UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX front covers
- S-Box connectivity for the support of SIP
- What is required for OAI support on UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX?
The integrated software option OAI (Open Applications Interface) is fully supported on the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX, without the requirement for any additional hardware. /nThe OAI software option is all that is required to enable the OAI functionality which is available via the CPU Ethernet port.
- Is the NEC Univerge reliable and robust technology?
The Univerge NEAX 2400 IPX continues to utilise the mature technology of its predecessor, the NEAX 2400 IPX but with added benefits of providing a greater functionality of true IP switching peer to peer. On customer request, the opportunity is still available for multiple levels of built in redundancy such as dual CPU, redundant common control packages and dual internal Power packages.
- What packages are supported on Univerge NEAX 2400 IPX?
Most of the packages currently deployed with the NEAX 7400 ICS, NEAX 7400 IMX and the NEAX 2400 IPX systems are also supported on the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX. Please check the specific package details with your NEC representative for confirmation and in many instances firmware upgrades are available if required.
- What is a Protocol Handler (PH)?
The Protocol Handler function provides the intelligence necessary to allow control between the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX system and the individual network attached IP devices via communication with the IPX through the CPU Ethernet port.
- Can the Univerge NEAX 2400 IPX allow scope for future growth?
The UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX expansion offer is currently from one PIM (Port Interface Module) to 16 PIMs. This relates to a maximum of 6,144 ports as a single system, but can expand to around 192,000 ports when utilised with other UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX or UNIVERGE SV7000 systems in a configured Fusion network. /nThe UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX system, in similar fashion to its NEAX predecessors, has been designed to allow a relatively quick and simple opportunity for growth, and so offers ease of expansion with minimal down time and a high level of flexibility for the customer.
- Will the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX support remote Gateways?
Yes, the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX with the relevant device licences can support not only IP stations but also IP connected trunk Gateways for ISDN and PSTN as well as IP connected Media Converters for support of analogue stations and Fax machines. There is also a 32 port Conference Gateway which connects over IP and is programmable for multiple, multi party conference calls.
- If I currently use NEC handsets, will they still work on the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX?
Yes, in most instances you will be able to use your current handsets however you may not have access to all of the new features now available.
- What benefits can I expect from using LCR on UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX?
Yes, Least Cost Routing (LCR) is available on the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX systems. It provides the opportunity for customers to save on call costs with the U-IPX system automatically selecting the cheapest trunk route available for the call. This function can also be based on a time of day selection.
- What is meant by the term IP Telephony?
IP Telephony is the convergence of voice and data communications on a single infrastructure.
- Does the Univerge NEAX 2400 IPX offer a cost-effective implementation?
The UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX continues to offer extensive expansion capability through its modular design and support of its many integrated solutions including IP, ISDN, CCIS, FCCS, ACD and OAI. /nThe level of modularity means a customer can choose to purchase a selection of individual components including software options, handsets or interface cards, at the initial installation or at any time through out the life of the system. This makes the solution ideal for phased implementation through an organisation, or alternatively for selected use on a business unit basis.
- What is NEC Protims?
NEC XEN IPK
- Does the NEC Xen IPK have a have a PC based programming utility?
Yes. It is called the Maintenance Access Terminal (MAT) and it allows user friendly creation of customer configuration files for upload to a customer site, backup of customer data, wizards to program features, plus a lot more.
- Can NEC Xen IPKs be networked over an IP Network?
Yes, either using SIP or K-CCIS private networking. Using K-CCIS feature transparency between sites delivers capabilities such as centralised voicemail, busy lamp field, call forwarding, paging, uniform numbering plan and many more features.
- How many BHCAs (busy hour call attempts) can the NEC Xen IPK support?
The NEC Xen IPK supports 1200 BHCAs.
- Does the NEC Xen IPK support an IP desktop?
Yes, the Xen IPK supports the Dterm IP running Megaco firmware and a Soft Phone. SIP for communication to third party IP devices is also available.
- How can the Xen IPKs IP Telephony capability reduce my PSTN trunk requirement and costs at my head office?
The number of PSTN trunks required can be reduced by; moving inter-site call traffic from the PSTN into the IP WAN network; using IP desktops at remote sites instead of mobile or PTSN phones for calls too and from the office thus moving PSTN traffic onto the IP WAN; and concentrating PSTN traffic at the one location and distributing calls to other sites over the IP WAN. This solution will increase PSTN trunk efficiencies compared with each site having PSTN access separately dimensioned.
- Does the NEC Xen IPK Dterm also work on the IPS IPX and SV7000 core platforms?
The same hardware is used, but different firmware is required for the Dterm IP to operate with the IPS, IPX and SV7000 products.
- What applications are supported on the Xen IPK?
Voicemail, Unified messaging (voicemail & fax & email), Uniform Call Distribution, Call Centre with Management Information System (MIS), TAPI based CPI, IP Telephony, DECT Wireless and Least Cost Routing (LCR).
- If a new card is put in to the system without restarting it, will the CPU be able to identify it and initialize it in a standard configuration?
No, programming will be required so that the CPU knows the card has been installed.
- I have a Xen Master or Axis and would like to upgrade to an IPK to take advantage of the new capabilities available. What equipment can I re-use with this upgrade?
Handsets and cards in the chassis can be re-used. The CPU cannot be re-used.
- Which NEC Xen IPK cards are not hot swappable?
The CPU and the voicemail cards.
- How many ports are supported on a standard and expanded NEC Xen IPK?
The standard Xen IPK supports up to 16 trunks and 32 stations. The expanded Xen IPK supports up to 64 trunks and 120 extensions.
